Moodle is called a CMS, a VLE, an MLE, and Website. It really depends who you speak to and what you want to do with it. To explain what Moodle is to a novice it is a website that people log in to. Once logged in what they see is controlled as is their abilty to complete certain activities. e.g. upload assignments, do tests online, participate in forums. It has proved very powerful in extending teaching and collaboration beyond the classroom. Best of all Moodle is Free. This site is not linked to the makers of Moodle.
